Pimpri- Chinchwad: In a troubling incident behind the Dhangarbaba temple in Thergaon on Monday evening around 7 p.m., a police team faced aggression while attempting to assist a man in distress. Police Constable Machchindra Varkate, aged 33, filed a report at Wakad Police Station, detailing the events that unfolded.

The altercation occurred when Constables Varkate and Dinkar Pondakule, on patrol as part of the Thergaon beat marshal team, responded to a call for help in the area. Upon arrival, they encountered a situation where a young man, identified as Suraj Chandrakant Kurhade, aged 22 and a resident of Thergaon, had allegedly stabbed Vilas Kamble, causing injury.

Efforts to apprehend the accused escalated when Kurhade resisted arrest and verbally abused the police officers. Despite attempts to flee, law enforcement managed to detain him. However, during the arrest, Kurhade bit Constable Varkate's left hand, causing injury. Additionally, Satyanarayana Pillamari, an enforcer from the Kalewadi beat marshal team who arrived to assist, also fell victim to Kurhade's aggression, sustaining bite wounds before Kurhade fled the scene.

A case has been registered against Kurhade under sections 353, 332, and 504 of the Indian Penal Code. Assistant Police Inspector Nalawde is overseeing the ongoing investigation into the matter.
