Pune: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), a vital advisory body to the Government of India in the realm of school education, has taken a firm stance against the unauthorised use of its educational materials. Yesterday, it released a press release issuing a stern warning to all involved stakeholders, urging them to refrain from engaging in any further acts of copyright infringement of its content.

In its press release, NCERT expressed grave concern over the rampant circulation of its published materials, including school textbooks and other study resources, in pirated online forms. NCERT emphasised that the dissemination of NCERT material, whether in whole or in part, through online platforms without obtaining proper copyright permission is a serious offence under the Infringement of Copyright Act, 1957, punishable by law.

The advisory body further asserted that it would not hesitate to take strict legal action against any individual or entity found guilty of such infringement in the future.

NCERT, entrusted with the task of developing and disseminating textbooks for all levels of school education, has long been recognised as the authorised source of educational teaching and learning resources. Any unauthorised publication of NCERT content is considered a violation of copyright laws.

Furthermore, in its press release, NCERT urged the public to refrain from utilising pirated textbooks or workbooks, highlighting the potential inaccuracies in their content and their divergence from the fundamental principles outlined in the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023.

Individuals who encounter such pirated materials are encouraged to promptly report them to NCERT via email at pd.ncert@nic.in. Additionally, any publisher seeking to incorporate the name of NCERT in their publications is required to submit a formal proposal to the Publication Division of NCERT, located at Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi-16, or via email at secy.ncert@nic.in.
