Pune: PAYING tributes to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of country's Constitution, the Maharashtra Congress said the party is making all effort to foil the BJP's bid to change the constitution.

''The BJP has been harping on the theme that it will change the constitution of India once it comes to power. The Congress will not allow the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have their way. The party is making all efforts to stop BJP from coming to power,'' Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Gopal Tiwari said.

''In post-independence India, the Constitution gave citizens right of equal vote to the people and provided the nation its true identity of India. If values of the Constitution are preserved, a better India, new India, a self-reliant India can be made...Otherwise the claims by made the BJP have no meaning,'' said Tiwari who paid floral tributes at the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in the city.

Adv Shaheed Akhtar also expressed his view. On this occasion Adv. Shrikant Patil, Adv. Rajendra Kalebere, Adv. Atul Gund Patil, Adv. Suresh Devkar, Adv. Vidya Pelpakar, Adv. Anju D'Souza, Suresh Nangre, Adv. Balasaheb Bamane, Adv. Vaibhav Kamble, Raju Sathe, Rajesh Sutar and Adv. Vijay Tikone were present.

Mr Tiwari further said that Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Chandrashekhar Azad, Subashchandra Bose did the important work of liberating the fragmented India, divided into Raje Shahi / Nizam Shahi, from the yoke of British slavery, through non-violence and diplomacy.

''It is a reality that the country got freedom due to the sacrifice of thousands of freedom fighters including Bhagat Singh and rajguru and the continuous struggle. It is a fact that due to the Constitution of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the identity of independent and Republican India was created in front of the world,'' he said.

Therefore, it is the duty of every Indian citizen, said Mr Tiwari, to be aware of the Indian Constitution and to protect the Constitution i.e. the Constitution of India. ''The movement of democratic India based on the Constitution will be a real tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar,'' Mr Tiwari said.
